Santa Maria del Camí

It is in a privileged location at the foot of the Sierra de Tramuntana Mountain range, only 20 minutes from Palma and serves as the entrance to the Pla de Mallorca, the northern part of the island and the Binissalem wine region, one of the best on the island.

Santa Maria is a town with beautiful contrasts. It is a quiet Mallorcan village with beautiful stone houses, some of them stately, the oenological center of the island, with lively bars, cafés, and restaurants where you can taste the local and international cuisine and inhabited by friendly people who are used to visitors from all over the world. The village trades tranquillity for hustle and bustle once a week when the market, one of the most impressive on the island, is held.

The origins of the village go back to ancient times, between 3000 - 1400 BC, during the 18th century when it achieved popularity as an exporter of wines and brandy throughout Europe that still endures to this day. It has more than 9 wineries. But it is not all about wine in the area, as the village is surrounded by almond trees which, during the flowering months between January and February, turn the countryside white.

Santa Maria is home to beautiful treasures such as the 17th century Renaissance-style Casa de la Vila, the parish church built in the 18th century, which was built over the old 13th-century church, the Convent of Nostra Senyora de la Soledat, which was a monastery, a school and is now a museum and restaurant, and various stately homes built between the 17th and early 20th centuries. XVII and the beginning of the XX century, such as the Posada de Son Llaüt, Ca s'Apotecari, Can Quelet, or Ca's Metge Rei.

Beyond the village, there are many cycling routes that run along all the island's roads from the mountains to the sea, as well as hiking routes, starting with the Coanegra valley with its unique charm where you can discover ravines, riverbeds, forests, walks or enormous and spectacular naturally created cavities, such as the Avenc de Son Pou.

All this makes Santa María del Camí a perfect option for getting to know the whole island and a privileged place if you like active tourism or getting to know the island's nature.
