Felanitx
- Distance from
MarSenses Ferrera Blanca Hotel 16 km and 22 minutes by car.
It is one of the most important towns in the south of the island. The town is surrounded by three mountains of around 500 metres in height; the highest is San Salvador, at whose summit stands the monastery of the same name, inaugurated in 1348 AD, from where you can enjoy views over almost the entire island. On the second rises Santueri Castle, dating back to 1228 AD, carved into the rock by the Saracens before the conquest of Mallorca by the Crown of Aragon in the 13th century, and Sa Comuna.
In the 18th century the town experienced significant growth thanks to brandy exports, at one point boasting more than 60 distilleries. Only a few still preserve the splendour of that era, such as Es Sindicat, which in the future will house a fine arts centre linked to Miquel Barceló, one of its most renowned sons. In recent years, Felanitx has enjoyed a revival of high-quality winemaking activity. It is also worth visiting the imposing 16th-century Church of Sant Miquel, located in the heart of the town.
Every Sunday a lively weekly market is held, offering the perfect opportunity to purchase local produce, handicrafts and flowers.
